NYC in a Day presents the Illegal Immigration Tour. This tour discusses the history of illegal immigration in the United States (and specifically New York City). In addition to learning the history of illegal immigration in the city, we will also visit:
- Battery Park/views of the Statue of Liberty
- Wall Street
- Chinatown/Columbus Park
- Little Italy
The debate on immigration has been a hot topic in many households, courtrooms, and political debates all over America (and Europe, for that matter) for more than a century. Many Americans see immigration as a threat to the local economy and culture—not to mention, the American Way of Life. Others believe that America’s problems with undocumented immigrants lie—not with the immigrants themselves—but in the attitudes many working-class Americans have towards other cultures.
This tour will talk about the history of illegal immigration in the United States. We will also discuss arguments both for and against granting undocumented immigrants resident status. Our conversations will revolve around the part undocumented immigrants have played in American history, as well as the role they play in modern-day NYC.
Meeting Place: The Immigrants Statue, near Castle Clinton, Battery Park.
Meeting Time: 9:50 AM
Tour Duration: 1.5-2 hours
